About Rysbek

Rysbek Nurgaziev, full name Nurgaziev Rysbek Zaryldykovich, serves as Rector of the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University named after K.I. Skryabin, a position he has held since his appointment by presidential decree in 2010, with reappointments in 2016 and 2021. Born on November 7, 1961, he graduated with honors from the Moscow Veterinary Academy named after K.I. Skryabin in 1983, followed by full-time postgraduate studies there from 1985 to 1989, where he defended his PhD thesis in 1989. He earned the academic title of Associate Professor in 1993, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences upon doctoral thesis defense in 1997, and Professor in 1998. His extensive career at the institution, beginning as an assistant in the Department of Epizootology, Microbiology, and Parasitology in 1978, progressed through roles such as head veterinarian of a collective farm (1983-1985), associate professor (1990-1998), deputy dean and multiple terms as dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (1993-1995, 1994-1996, 1998-2003), professor of the Department of Infectious and Invasive Diseases (2000-2003), and director of key research institutes including the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, and Pastures (2002-2008) and the Kyrgyz Veterinary Research Institute (2008-2010).

Nurgaziev is a prolific researcher with 337 scientific publications, including two monographs: “Adenovirus infection of animals” (1997) and “Biology of DNA-containing viruses” (2003). He has authored nine books, such as “Dictionary-reference book on veterinary pathology” (2008), “Predicting and accelerating dairy cattle breeding” (2009), “Жаныбарлардын вирустук ылаңдары” (2011), “Микробиологиялуу Эпизоотология” (2012), “Biological and Veterinary Dictionary-Thesaurus” (2012), “Set of instructions for the control of especially dangerous and socially significant diseases of farm animals” (2013), “Food Security and Nutrition” (2015), “Basics of Pasture Management and Utilization” (2020), and “General Virology Book” (2021). His contributions include 26 methodological recommendations, 12 patented biotechnological developments for vaccine preparations against diseases like foot-and-mouth disease, smallpox, and salmonellosis, and co-development of the Aikol meat-sucking sheep breed. Under his supervision, five doctoral and 22 candidate dissertations have been defended. He leads projects on veterinary biotechnology, epidemiological control of transboundary infections, and molecular characterization of viral pathogens in horses and brucellosis surveillance. Nurgaziev holds memberships in the Council of Rectors of Agrarian Universities of the Commonwealth, the Association of Rectors of Kyrgyzstan, and the Commission on State Prizes in science and technology. His honors include the President’s “Agrarian Elite of the Kyrgyz Republic” award (2004), Certificate of Honor of the Kyrgyz Republic (2009), Laureate of the State Prize in science and technology (2016), Honored Scientist of the Kyrgyz Republic (2019), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic (2021), and foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2022).
