Sally-Anne Doherty is a Lecturer and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Undergraduate Unit Set Co-ordinator in the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Edith Cowan University, where she contributes to Health Science education and training. She holds a Master of Occupational Health & Safety from Edith Cowan University (2013), a Bachelor of Business majoring in Human Resource Management (2011), and a Graduate Certificate in Public Health & OHS (2021), all obtained from Edith Cowan University. Currently enrolled in a PhD, Doherty brings over 30 years of professional experience predominantly from the Oil & Gas, Mining Registered Training Organisation, and Fertiliser and Chemical industries to her academic position. Her extensive industry background enhances her teaching in occupational health and safety within the Health Science faculty.
Doherty's research interests encompass psychosocial safety and wellbeing, qualitative research methodologies, and teaching and learning. She teaches several core units, including HST1152 Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety, HST2122 Health Research Methodology, HST2145 Risk Management, HST3501 Health Research Project, HST3502 Health Science Professional Practice, OHS6107 Workplace Hazards, and OHS6132 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. As a member of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety and the Chamber of Minerals and Energy Mental Health Working Group, she is currently involved in the research project 'What is the role of the safety Regulator in suicides?', funded by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (2023–2024, $75,000). Doherty received the ECU Dean’s List award from the Faculty of Business and Law in 2011. Her key publications include 'An innovative and meaningful scaffolded curriculum approach to Environmental Health education in Western Australia' (Frontiers in Education, 2024, co-authored with Oosthuizen et al.); 'Using image-reflections to support undergraduate students’ relational employability: A practitioner reflection' (Journal of Teaching and Learning for Graduate Employability, 2024, co-authored with Wallace and Cook); 'Preparing the Future Public Health Workforce: Fostering Global Citizenship Through the Relational Employability Framework—Insights from Two Case Studies' (Education Sciences, 2024, co-authored with Cook and Wallace); 'A practical look at the why and how of supporting international students: A checklist of teaching tips' (Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice, 2020, co-authored with Beatty and Clark); and 'Tlabs: A teaching and learning community of practice – what is it, does it work and tips for doing one of your own' (Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice, 2020, co-authored with Beatty, Clark, and Lines).
