Samantha Coyle-Eastwick is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Montclair State University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She serves as a core faculty member in the School Psychology MA Program and the Clinical Psychology PhD Program. Dr. Coyle-Eastwick earned her PhD in School Psychology from Northern Illinois University. She directs the Promoting Student Success Lab, which conducts research on school mental health, multi-tiered systems of support for social, emotional, and behavioral well-being, bullying victimization, and factors related to students' perceptions of school climate and school safety. Her teaching includes PSYC 574: Cognitive Assessment, PSYC 615: Crisis Response and Intervention for School Psychologists, and PSYC 668: School Consultation. She also participates in the Penn Resilience Program at Montclair State University, where she supports students by sharing evidence-based strategies from the program to build resilience and promote healthy coping for those dealing with stress.
Dr. Coyle-Eastwick's research specializes in school-based mental health assessment and intervention, with a focus on risk and protective factors for mental health difficulties such as social support, stress, and bullying victimization. Her clinical interests encompass Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) in schools, school consultation, and school crisis response and intervention practices. She has published her work in prominent journals including Psychological Bulletin, Journal of School Psychology, and School Psychology Review. Key publications include "A meta-analytic review of the association between perceived social support and depression in childhood and adolescence" (Psychological Bulletin, 2016), "Relationships matter: The protective role of teacher and peer support in understanding school climate for victimized youth" (Child & Youth Care Forum, 2022), "Parent and peer social support compensation and internalizing problems in adolescence" (Journal of School Psychology, 2020), "A roadmap to equitable school mental health screening" (Journal of School Psychology, 2023), and "The dangers of the web: Cybervictimization, depression, and social support in college students" (Computers in Human Behavior, 2015). Dr. Coyle-Eastwick is a member of the editorial boards for Journal of School Psychology and Psychology in the Schools.
