Professor Samar Ahmed serves as Professor of Forensic Medicine and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at Dubai Medical College for Girls. With over 25 years of experience in academic leadership and medical education, she holds an MBBCh, MSc, MD, and Master’s in Health Professions Education (MHPE). Her career includes significant roles at Ain Shams University, where she was Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Director of the Ain Shams Middle East North Africa FAIMER Regional Institute for Health Professions Education, Chair of the Centre of Excellence in Forensic Psychiatric Research, Director of the Quality Assurance Unit at Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine, and Vice President of the Project for Quality Assurance and Accreditation. As a certified UNESCO Trainer at Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine, she has focused on enhancing educational quality, curriculum design, and faculty development. She has received prestigious fellowships, including Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), Fellow of the FAIMER Institute in Philadelphia, and Fellow of the Karolinska Institute Prize for Research in Medical Education (F. KIPRIME).
Professor Ahmed's research specializations include medical education, competency-based assessment, forensic medicine, and forensic psychiatry, with over 970 citations on Google Scholar. Key publications comprise 'Operationalizing competency-based assessment: Contextualizing for cultural and gender divides' (2023, MedEdPublish), co-authored work on integrating portfolio and mentorship in competency-based medical education (2024, BMC Medical Education), and contributions to studies on psychological stress among medical students and pulmonary infections. At Dubai Medical College for Girls, as head of the Education Support Unit, she has spearheaded innovative teaching methodologies, programmatic assessment aligned with international standards such as the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) and World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), and regional collaborations. Her efforts have driven institutional reforms, improved student outcomes, and promoted evidence-based practices in diverse academic environments.
