Sarah Taillier is a Lecturer in Journalism at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, affiliated with the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry in the Faculty of Humanities. Her research interests include the emotional labor of journalists. Taillier possesses a diverse media background that enriches her academic role. She developed her passion for broadcasting by volunteering at a local radio station. Her career began in regional Western Australia as a video journalist for the WIN News Network. She progressed to become a multi-platform reporter at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), holding the position of Lead Reporter for the Mid-West, Wheatbelt, Goldfields, and Esperance regions.
Taillier gained international experience in television production in London before returning to ABC Perth as a radio producer. In 2020, she worked on the Focus program and subsequently moved to the statewide Afternoons program. At Curtin University, she teaches courses such as Journalism Major Project, Multimedia News Production, Presentation for Broadcast, Radio News, and Video News. She also acts as editor for the Western Independent, the university's student-led media outlet. Additionally, Taillier hosts the Curtin University podcast series "The Future Of," conducting interviews with experts on diverse topics. These include Dr. Sarah Hellewell on brain trauma and sports, Professor Crystal Abidin on TikTok, Dr. Hani Al-Salami and Dr. Armin Mooranian on gut health, Professor John Mamo and Dr. Virginie Lam on Alzheimer's, Associate Professor Sam Winter on transgender inclusion, Professors Chris Moran and Fran Ackermann on research, Dr. Patrick Clarke and Tamsin Donnelly on screen time and attention span, and Professor Lauren Breen and Shelly Skinner on grief. Her work fosters connections between professional journalism practice and academic study.
