Dr. Sarah Woodruff is a Professor and Associate Dean — Academic Programs in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Windsor. She earned a BPE and an MSc in Kinesiology from the University of New Brunswick, a PhD in Health Studies and Gerontology (Nutrition) from the University of Waterloo, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Propel, University of Waterloo.
Dr. Woodruff is a multidisciplinary, community-based researcher focused on advancing the health and wellness of Canadian children and adolescents. Her work examines environmental influences, including those from family, peers, school, and media, on nutrition, physical activity, body image, and other health outcomes. She partners with public health units, the Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA), Leadership Advancement for Women and Sport (LAWS), and the Ontario Student Nutrition Program. Her research interests include the health and wellness of Canadians, nutrition and physical activity patterns, behaviours, and attitudes, and environmental influences on health outcomes. She has authored or co-authored recent publications such as “A social media give and take: What young adults would give up to stay connected” (2023), “Maternal modeling Online: Assessing the dynamics of mother/daughter dyads on social networking sites using the actor-partner interdependence model” (2023), “A randomized control trial of a Canadian-based school food program on the home environment” (2022), and “Examining elementary school children’s knowledge about food and nutrition in Southwestern Ontario, Canada” (2022). Dr. Woodruff has received the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario Women of Excellence Award for her contributions in sport, fitness, and recreation.
