Sayantika Mondal is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Baruch College, City University of New York (CUNY). She teaches undergraduate courses in mathematics, maintaining an office at B-6-205B and available by telephone at 646-312-4144. Simultaneously, Mondal is a Ph.D. candidate in Mathematics at the CUNY Graduate Center, where her research centers on geometric topology and low-dimensional topology, with specific investigations into curve types, simplicial complexes, 3-manifolds, and handlebody-knots.
Mondal has produced notable research preprints published on arXiv. In August 2025, she co-authored 'Distinguishing Curve Types and Designer Metrics' with Ara Basmajian, introducing two invariants of a curve or arc to distinguish filling curves via designer metrics. In May 2025, alongside Puttipong Pongtanapaisan and Hanh Vo, she published 'Estimating distances in simplicial complexes with applications to 3-manifolds and handlebody-knots,' which examines distance relations in simplicial complexes associated with these geometric structures.
Her scholarly work extends to presentations at prominent venues. At the 2025 Joint Mathematics Meetings, Mondal presented 'Distinguishing filling curves via designer metrics.' She also delivered a talk at the Geometry and Topology Student Seminar at the College of Staten Island, CUNY. These activities highlight her engagement with the mathematical community.
In addition to research and teaching, Mondal holds leadership positions within CUNY. She served as Officer for Student Life & Services at the CUNY Doctoral Students' Council plenary in 2022. As a Mathematics Ph.D. student, she contributes to reviving CUNY Women in STEM, building a network to support women in STEM disciplines across the university system. Through these efforts, Mondal exemplifies dedication to mathematical advancement and community building.
