Scott Waltemyer is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management at Texas A&M University, where he also serves as Sport Management Graduate Internship Coordinator and Undergraduate Assessment Coordinator. He received his Ph.D. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sport Management from Texas A&M University in 2006, an M.S. in the same field from the same institution in 2003, and a B.S. in Sport Management from Towson University in 2000. His dissertation examined the effects of team diversity on team processes and performance.
Waltemyer's research interests encompass pedagogical practices in Sport Management and stakeholder perceptions of sport and athletic programs from youth to professional levels. Additional areas include organizational behavior and theory in sport organizations, social issues in sport, small group processes, performance, leadership, and group member attitudes in sport teams. His peer-reviewed publications include "The influence of team diversity on assists and team performance among National Hockey League teams" co-authored with G. B. Cunningham in the International Journal of Sport Management (2009) and "The influence of outcome interdependence on the relationship between task conflict and group performance" in the International Journal of Sport Psychology (2007). He has contributed chapters on deviant behavior in sport to Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity (2019, 2012 editions) and on the history of sport management to directories of sport management programs (2005). Awards include being a finalist in the North American Society for Sport Management Student Research Paper Competition (2006) and first place in Texas A&M University Student Research Week Competition (2005). Previously, he was Assistant Professor and Sport Management Program Coordinator at Texas A&M University-Commerce (2006-2009, 2010-2014) and Assistant Professor at Towson University (2009-2010). He teaches numerous courses such as Foundations of Sport Management, Sport Marketing, Sociology of Sport, Sport Facility Planning, and graduate seminars. Waltemyer has been active in departmental service, serving on curriculum committees, search committees, peer teaching committees, and chairing M.S. graduate student committees, including for Ali Leasor (2018).
