A true gem in the academic community.
Selvin P. Thomas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering Technology at Yanbu Industrial College, part of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia. He joined the institution on December 12, 2012, initially as an Assistant Professor, and has since advanced to his current position. Thomas earned his Ph.D. from Mahatma Gandhi University in Kottayam, India. His research focuses on polymer nanocomposites, rheology, and materials chemistry, with particular emphasis on the development and characterization of advanced polymer materials, biopolymers, and nanocomposites for various engineering applications. He has authored or co-authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, contributing significantly to the field. Notable works include "Effect of Modified and Nonmodified Carbon Nanotubes on the Rheological Behavior of High Density Polyethylene Nanocomposite" published in 2013, "Partial Replacement of Carbon Black with Graphene in Tire Compounds: Transport Properties, Thermal Stability and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis" in 2024, "A brief review on extraction and characterization of nanocellulose from date palm biomass" in 2025, "Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB): A Standout Biopolymer for Environmental Sustainability" in 2018, and "Polyblends and composites of poly (lactic acid) (PLA): a review on the state of the art" also in 2018. His research explores topics such as the rheological, mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties of polymer blends and nanocomposites, including systems involving polypropylene, polylactic acid, natural rubber, and carbon-based nanofillers.
Thomas's scholarly impact is evidenced by over 3,687 citations on Google Scholar. He serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Yemen Journal of Engineering Sciences, reflecting his influence in academic publishing. His work includes investigations into hybrid filler systems, gas barrier properties, dielectric responses, and sustainable practices like catalytic pyrolysis of waste plastics and PET recycling in chemical engineering education. Collaborations with researchers from institutions such as King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals highlight his contributions to tire compounds, laser-induced modifications of polymers, and eco-friendly composites. Through these efforts, Thomas advances knowledge in polymer science and engineering materials, supporting industrial and environmental applications.
