Seonia Wark serves as a Lecturer in STEM Mathematics within the School of Education at the University of New England, part of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education. Bringing over 30 years of extensive experience from her career in schools, where she advanced from Head of Mathematics teacher to Deputy Principal, Wark is a passionate advocate for mathematics education. Her leadership excellence has been recognized with two notable awards: the ACEL William Walker Award for Excellence in Educational Leadership and selection as an Apple Distinguished Educator. She has presented her expertise at prestigious conferences worldwide, sharing insights on effective teaching practices. Wark's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of New England, as well as a Master of Leadership and Management in Education from the University of Newcastle. Currently, she is pursuing a Master in Education (Research), concentrating on the mathematical pedagogical development of pre-service primary teachers during their undergraduate studies.
Her primary research interests encompass mathematics education at both primary and secondary levels, with a specific focus on enhancing the pedagogical skills of pre-service teachers. Wark coordinates key teaching units such as Primary Mathematics 1: Numeracy (EDME145), Primary Mathematics 2A: Space, Measurement and Number (EDME358), Primary Mathematics 2B: Statistics, Algebra and Number (EDME369), various Secondary Mathematics courses (EDME392/3/4/5), Digital Technologies, and Learning Analytics. An active professional, she holds memberships in the Mathematics Association of NSW, ASCILITE, and the Australian College of Educators. Wark provides consultancy services in mathematics education and educational leadership. She is also co-involved in the 2024/2025 Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership Impact: Emerging Leaders Program, collaborating with colleagues including Professor Sue Gregory, Professor Jennifer Charteris, and others.
