Dr. Shaiba Sandhu serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine, Oncology, and Orofacial Pain and Program Director of the Oral Oncology Fellowship at High Point University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine. She holds double board certifications from the American Board of Oral Medicine (May 2023) and the American Board of Orofacial Pain (June 2023). Her academic background includes a BDS in Dental Surgery from Gian Sagar Dental College, Baba Farid University, India (2012); DDS in Dental Surgery from University of California, San Francisco School of Dentistry (2018); Certificate in Advanced Graduate Education in Oral Medicine from Harvard School of Dental Medicine (2021); MS in Higher Education from Purdue Global University (2023); and Certificate in Advanced Graduate Education in Orofacial Pain from Harvard School of Dental Medicine (2023). She completed postgraduate residencies in Oral Medicine (2018–2021) and Orofacial Pain (2021–2023) at Harvard-affiliated institutions, including Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Prior to her current role, which began in 2023 as Assistant Professor in Surgical and Specialty Care, Dr. Sandhu held positions at Massachusetts General Hospital (2021–2023) and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (2018–2021). Since 2023, she serves as attending clinical faculty at Novant Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in High Point, NC; Novant Cancer Institute; and HPU Health. She is actively engaged in professional service, serving on the Scientific Committee and Corporate Sponsorship Committee of the American Academy of Oral Medicine since 2023, and holding memberships in the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (since 2021) and the American Dental Association (since 2016). Dr. Sandhu’s research specializations encompass oral medicine, orofacial pain management, oncology-related oral complications, and resident training impacts. Her key publications include “Paradoxical masseteric bulging after botulinum neurotoxin type A injection” in BMJ Case Reports (2024); “Burnout in oral medicine and orofacial pain residents” in the Journal of the American Dental Association (2023); “Oral Toxicities” chapter in Cutaneous Toxicities from Anticancer Therapies (Wolters Kluwer, 2023); “Pathology mimicking orofacial pain” in Dental Clinics of North America (2022); “Oral lichen planus: comparative efficacy and treatment costs - a systematic review” in BMC Oral Health (2022); and multiple studies on osteonecrosis of the jaw, including “Osteonecrosis of the jaw and dental extractions: A single-center experience” in Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, and Oral Radiology (2020).
