Professor Shane Bullock is Professor and Head of School of Monash Rural Health, Australia's oldest and largest rural clinical school, within Monash University's Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. A pharmacologist by training, he earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a PhD in pharmacology from Monash University. Over more than two decades, he has dedicated his career to training future health professionals in rural and regional settings across Far North Queensland and Victoria. Prior to his current role, which he assumed in August 2021 following an acting appointment, Bullock served as Director of Monash Rural Health Churchill and Deputy Head of School of Rural Health since 2012. In these positions, he oversaw Year A of Monash's graduate entry medical program, leading significant improvements in curriculum, assessment, and delivery tailored to regional contexts. As Head of School, he directs educational, research, and community engagement initiatives aimed at enhancing health outcomes for rural and regional Australians.
Bullock's research focuses on pharmacology and pathophysiology education for health professionals and digital strategies in health and medical education. He has earned awards and citations for excellence in pharmacology teaching. In 2026, he received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to community health. His scholarly contributions include co-authoring three prominent Australian textbooks: Fundamentals of Pharmacology (nine editions), Principles of Pathophysiology, and Psychopharmacology for Health Professionals.
