Shannon Alpert, EdD, PMP, is an Associate Teaching Professor in the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University. She serves as the Program Lead for the Master of Science in Project Management, Academic Director for the Lab for Inclusive Entrepreneurship, Director of the Doctor of Professional Studies program, and Assistant Dean of Wellness and Belonging. Alpert earned undergraduate degrees in English and secondary education and a master’s degree in instructional technology from Georgia State University in Atlanta. She received her doctoral degree, EdD, in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds professional certifications as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Six Sigma Green Belt, and Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM). Prior to academia, Alpert spent the first 15 years of her career leading projects and teams responsible for creating learning solutions in the telecommunications and financial services industries. She consulted with K-8 and higher education organizations on project and portfolio management as well as fundraising, and taught online graduate courses at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She joined Northeastern University in 2015 and was promoted to Associate Teaching Professor in 2024.
Alpert’s research specializations include action research related to faculty technology adoption and faculty use of learning management systems, as well as exploration of project management practices in academic settings. She co-authored the publication 'Preparing educational leaders through action research' in Action Research (2023) with Michael Dean and William Ewell. Other contributions include co-authorship on 'The Evolution of Hiring: What Managers Know About, Think About, and Are Doing with Microcredentials' (2020) with Amanda Welsh and colleagues, and an article on moving from compliance to empowerment in higher education with Mamta Saxena, Joe Reilly, and others (2026). Alpert has mentored undergraduate research projects, including recipients of RISE awards, and presented papers such as at the Northeastern University College of Professional Studies faculty conference. Her leadership roles and program direction demonstrate her influence on professional studies and educational leadership within the field.
