About Shaukat

Dr. Shaukat Wasi serves as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Computing at Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, within the Department of Computer Science. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences in 2015, Master of Science in Computer Science from the same university in 2006, and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Karachi in 2003. Dr. Wasi commenced his academic career in 2005 at FAST-NUCES as a teaching faculty member. Subsequently, he contributed as a founding teaching faculty at DHA Suffa University before joining Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, where he progressed to his current leadership role in the Faculty of Computing.

Dr. Wasi's academic interests encompass Human-Computer Interaction, Information Retrieval, Information Extraction, Text Classification, and Text Mining. He directs the Intelligent and Interactive Natural Language Processing (IINLP) research group at the Faculty of Computing, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University. Current projects within IINLP tackle challenges in multilingual text and document processing, placing emphasis on human factors. His scholarly contributions include notable publications such as "Automated prediction of good dictionary examples (GDEX): A comprehensive experiment with distant supervision, machine learning, and word embedding-based deep learning techniques" published in Complexity in 2021, "Financial knowledge graph based financial report query system" in IEEE Access in 2021, "Sentiment analysis of students’ comment using long-short term model" in the Indian Journal of Science and Technology in 2019, "Aspect-based sentiment analysis for service industry" in IEEE Access in 2024, "A novel personalized learning framework with interactive e-mentoring" also in IEEE Access in 2024, and "An automated information extraction system from the knowledge graph based annual financial reports" in PeerJ Computer Science in 2024. Additionally, Dr. Wasi teaches advanced courses including Information Retrieval Techniques, Human Computer Interaction, Natural Language Processing, Advanced Topics in Theoretical Computer Science, Theory of Automata, Data Structures, Software Engineering, and Compiler Construction.
