Dr. Shayne Chau serves as a Senior Lecturer in Diagnostic Radiography within the School of Dentistry and Medical Sciences, Faculty of Science and Health, at Charles Sturt University. He earned his PhD in Neuroscience from the University of South Australia, Master's degrees in Public Health and Health Leadership and Management from the University of New South Wales, a Master's in Medical Imaging Science from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) with First Class Honours. Chau has held previous academic appointments at the University of South Australia, RMIT University, and the University of Canberra. Complementing his academic career, he possesses extensive clinical experience as a CT and emergency department radiographer in public and private health settings, including Flinders Medical Centre. He also holds an Associate Professor position at VinUniversity through its Global Affiliate Program and adjunct senior lecturer roles at other institutions.
Chau's research specializations include diagnostic radiography, computed tomography, neuroimaging biomarkers—particularly nigrosome-1 imaging for Parkinson’s disease—health professions education, and artificial intelligence in healthcare. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles with an h-index of 18, multiple textbooks such as Person-Centred Care in Radiology, Computed Tomography: Advanced Clinical Applications, and numerous book chapters. His achievements encompass securing competitive research grants, including the AI-Enabled Segmentation of Brain MRI grant and Tri-Faculty Open Access Publishing Fund. As a Fellow of the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy and the Higher Education Academy, Chau chairs the Teaching Innovation in Radiography Group, promoting national collaborations in radiography education. He contributes editorially to journals including Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, Annals of Medicine, and Digital Health, and fulfills key professional roles such as Accreditation Assessor for the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia, Council Member of the Medical Radiation Practice Council of NSW, and Clinical Council Member of the Murrumbidgee Local Health Network. Chau is a regular invited speaker at national and international conferences, exerting considerable influence on medical radiation science education and clinical practice.
