Sherryn Bailey is a Lecturer (Teaching Scholar) in Nursing in the Faculty of Health at Southern Cross University, located at the Coffs Harbour campus. A registered nurse (RN) with a Master of Science in Medicine (MScMed), she completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Southern Cross University in 2025, with research centered on early parenting interventions. In her teaching role, Bailey delivers content in the Bachelor of Nursing program, notably the third-year unit 'The Emerging Practitioner.' She has collaborated with the university's Careers and Employability team for over three years, integrating their expertise to equip students with essential graduate recruitment skills, including CV development, addressing selection criteria, and interview preparation. This partnership has enhanced students' transition to new graduate nursing roles. In 2024, Bailey received recognition in the Outstanding Teaching Awards, ranking in the top 10% of teachers based on student feedback from the prior 12 months. She has also contributed as an internal reviewer for organisational course reviews and appeared on the Vital Signs Podcast discussing her experience as a paediatric-trained nursing lecturer.
Bailey's research interests focus on realist evaluation of early parenting interventions, particularly nurse-led specialist programs for rural families facing early parenting challenges, alongside prior work in paediatric respiratory and sleep disorders. Notable publications include 'Specialist early parenting intervention: Effectiveness of a novel nurse-led approach for rural families' (2024, Journal of Pediatric Nursing), co-authored with John Hurley, Karin Plummer, and Marie Hutchinson, which evaluated outcomes in parental confidence and infant settling. She also published 'Parenting interventions targeting early parenting difficulty: A scoping review' (2022, Journal of Child Health Care), synthesizing evidence for interventions with parents of infants aged 0-3 years. Earlier peer-reviewed articles encompass 'Airway, feeding and growth in infants with Robin sequence and sleep apnoea' (2013, International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology) and 'Inflammatory measures in children with obstructive sleep apnoea' (2006, Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health), the latter cited 151 times. Additional works include 'Structural equation modeling of sleep apnea, inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction in children' (2007, Journal of Sleep Research). Her scholarship has accumulated over 350 citations.
