Dr. Shou-Yu Cindy Wang is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing in the School of Health at the University of New England. Originally from Taiwan, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from China Medical College, now China Medical University, Taichung, Taiwan (1991-1995). She pursued postgraduate studies at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, obtaining a Master of Nursing majoring in cancer nursing (2001-2003) and a Doctor of Philosophy with a focus on complementary and alternative medicine related to cancer patients (2003-2007). Her early career included positions as a registered nurse at Taichung Veteran General Hospital, Taiwan, and Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia. Prior to joining UNE in 2019, she accumulated more than ten years of experience in research and teaching within overseas tertiary education sectors.
Wang's academic interests center on qualitative research, grounded theory, cancer nursing, palliative care for patients with chronic illnesses including cancer, and the perspectives of patients, families, and healthcare professionals. Her primary research areas encompass cancer nursing, palliative care, chronic illness patients and families, complementary and alternative medicine, online learning, systematic reviews, grounded theory, and mixed methods. She teaches master's-level courses in Methods for Inquiry in Health and Social Care and Qualitative Research, and undergraduate courses related to aged care and medical-surgical nursing.
