Dr. Sidharth Murthy serves as a Lecturer in the Accounting and Finance section of the Murdoch Business School at Murdoch University, located in room 512.2.026. He completed his PhD at Deakin University in the Department of Accounting, where his doctoral research investigated the influence of CEO psychological traits on corporate outcomes such as earnings forecasts and risk-taking behaviors. During his PhD, he was awarded the Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship. Prior to his appointment at Murdoch University, Dr. Murthy worked as a Sessional Academic. His academic background has equipped him to teach key units including MBS539 Accounting for Managers and MBS669 Management Accounting.
Dr. Murthy's research interests encompass financial accounting, corporate governance, management psychology, and sustainability reporting. He has presented at conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. Notable publications include the journal article 'CEO Regulatory Focus and Management Earnings Forecasts' (2023), co-authored with Ferdinand A. Gul from the University of the Sunshine Coast and Jun Yao from Deakin University, which analyzes how CEOs' regulatory focus impacts voluntary disclosures in earnings forecasts. Additionally, he is the contact author for the working paper 'CEO Political Ideology, Gender Diversified Boards, and Corporate Risk Taking,' co-authored with Ferdinand A. Gul and Ratna Paudyal, exploring the effects of CEO political ideology and board gender diversity on corporate risk-taking. Dr. Murthy is a co-investigator on the 2024–2025 AFAANZ Research Grant project titled 'Climate change engagement in the higher education sector,' in collaboration with Dr. Terri Trireksani and Dr. Augustine Donkor, both from Murdoch University. His contributions advance understanding of upper echelons theory applications in accounting and governance contexts.
