Sidney Stoddard is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy and the Director of Clinical Education for Georgia Southern University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, located in the Department of Clinical Sciences within the Waters College of Health Professions. He joined Georgia Southern University in 2021. Dr. Stoddard holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (2023), a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Quinnipiac University (2015), and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Science Studies from Quinnipiac University (2012).
Dr. Stoddard brings extensive clinical experience from outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine settings, where he assisted athletes at amateur, high school, collegiate, and professional levels with their return to sport. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he served as a cardiopulmonary and critical care physical therapist at Lehigh Valley Health Network. His research interests encompass functional performance testing, neurocognitive task development, return to activity screening, human performance optimization, and tactical and occupational athlete performance. Additional areas include physical therapy, sports therapy and rehabilitation, critical care and intensive care medicine, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy. He has co-authored peer-reviewed publications such as “Effects of Neurocognitive Multitask Activities on a Novel Lower Extremity Functional Performance Test” with L. Hill, Bryan L. Riemann, and George J. Davies (Journal of Sport Rehabilitation, 2025), “Examining relationships between the clinical learning environment and clinical reasoning in physical therapy education” with L. Kupczynski and C. M. Jameson (The Journal of Clinical Education in Physical Therapy, 2025), and “Effects of Hip Position on Conventional Isokinetic Knee Flexion/Extension Ratios: A Critically Appraised Topic” with Bryan L. Riemann and George J. Davies (International Journal of Athletic Therapy and Training, 2026). As Co-Principal Investigator, he contributes to the Tactical and Occupational Performance Institute project funded by the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium. Dr. Stoddard also serves as Senate Secretary for the Georgia Southern University Faculty Senate. His teaching philosophy emphasizes student-centered learning, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning to develop compassionate, competent, and innovative clinicians.
