Siri Terjesen is Associate Dean for Research and External Relations, founding Executive Director of the Madden Center for Value Creation, and Phil Smith Professor of Entrepreneurship at Florida Atlantic University in the Business & Economics faculty. She holds a Professor II affiliate position at the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen, Norway. Terjesen earned her PhD in Strategy and Entrepreneurship from Cranfield University in 2006, a Master's degree in International Business from the Norwegian School of Economics in 2002, and a BS in Finance, International Business, and Marketing from the University of Richmond in 1997. Before entering academia, she worked as a management consultant with Accenture in the United States and Germany. Her career includes previous roles that contributed to her expertise in strategic management and entrepreneurship.
Terjesen is an internationally recognized scholar ranked among the world's top 2% most cited researchers by Clarivate, with over 24,500 citations to her three books and more than 100 peer-reviewed articles. Her research specializations encompass strategic management, entrepreneurship, corporate governance, higher education, and philanthropy. Key publications appear in premier journals such as Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, Business Ethics Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, Leadership Quarterly, and Strategic Management Journal. Recent works include 'The Institutional-Ideological Matrix: How Freedom and Ideology Shape Opportunity-to-Necessity Entrepreneurship' (Small Business Economics, 2025), 'Assessing the Impact of University Innovation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems: Managerial and Policy Implications' (Academy of Management Perspectives, 2024), and 'Venture Governance, CEO Duality, and New Venture Performance' (Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, 2024). As principal investigator or co-principal investigator, she has obtained $12 million in research grants and gifts. Terjesen serves as editor for Small Business Economics, Industry & Innovation, and Beta, and reviews for higher education agencies in the U.S., European Union, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, and Belgium. She advises think tanks on policy issues and holds board positions with the American Council of Trustees and Alumni Fund for Academic Renewal, American Civics Academy, and Changing Lives. Notable honors include the Florida Atlantic University Research Park Distinguished Researcher Award (2023), Heritage Foundation Freedom and Opportunity Academic Prize (2023), Institute for Humane Studies Distinguished Fellowship (2023), Justin G. Longenecker Fellowship from the U.S. Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (2022), Mont Pelerin Society membership (2021), and Philadelphia Society membership (2024). She has received outstanding teaching awards from FAU College of Business, American University, Indiana University, and Alpha Kappa Psi. Her research features in Bloomberg, U.S. News & World Report, The Times, and CNBC.
