Sixia Chen, Ph.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Hudson College of Public Health, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, a position he has held since 2022. He previously served as Assistant Professor in the same department from 2015 to 2022 and as Senior Sampling Statistician at Westat from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Chen earned his Ph.D. in Statistics from Iowa State University in 2012 and his B.A. in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Fudan University in 2007. His research specializations include survey sampling, missing data problems, machine learning and big data, statistical disclosure control, causal inference, empirical likelihood, nonparametric and semiparametric modeling, small area estimation, tobacco research, and Native American health disparities. He has served as principal investigator, co-principal investigator, or co-investigator on more than 35 grants and contracts, and acts as a reviewer for the NIH, NSF, and PCORI.
Dr. Chen has published over 110 peer-reviewed articles, more than 40 as first or senior author in top statistical journals. Key publications include "Pseudo-population bootstrap methods for imputed survey data" (Biometrika, 2019, with D. Haziza, C. Leger, Z. Mashreghi), "On the nonparametric multiple imputation with multiply robustness" (Statistica Sinica, 2019, with D. Haziza), "Multiply robust imputation procedures for the treatment of item nonresponse in surveys" (Biometrika, 2017, with D. Haziza), "Two-phase sampling for propensity score estimation in self-selected samples" (The Annals of Applied Statistics, 2014, with J. K. Kim), and "Population empirical likelihood for nonparametric inference in survey sampling" (Statistica Sinica, 2014, with J. K. Kim). His contributions have advanced methodologies in survey statistics and biostatistics. Dr. Chen is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute (2022) and recipient of the American Statistical Association Outstanding Chapter Service Awards in 2022, 2024, and 2025. He serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Korean Statistical Society, Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology, and Survey Methodology. Other roles include President of the ASA Oklahoma Chapter (2024-2025), where he organized the 3rd Oklahoma Biostatistics Conference and workshops; Vice Chair of ASA District 4 Committee on Chapters Governing Board; Director of the Novel Methodologies Unit, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design Core of Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources; faculty biostatistician for multiple OUHSC cores; full member of Stephenson Cancer Center; faculty affiliate of TSET Health Promotion Research Center and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation; and consultant for the Tribal Epidemiology Center of the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board since 2016.
