Ms Skye Maywald serves as a Lecturer in Social Work at the School of Social Work and Social Care, part of the College of Education, Behavioural and Social Sciences at Adelaide University. She completed her Bachelor of Social Work at the University of South Australia (Magill Campus) in 2006. Maywald's extensive career in social services has equipped her with deep practical expertise. Her primary focus was in child protection, where she engaged in reunification efforts and intake processes. Additionally, she took on a training and facilitating role within the Department, which involved traveling across South Australia to support multiple regions. In the later stages of her tenure at the Department, she was stationed in Whyalla as a Senior Practitioner, concentrating on enhancing practice standards. Throughout her child protection career, she held positions in both metropolitan and regional settings, with a particular emphasis on the Iron Triangle region.
Following her child protection roles, Maywald advanced to supervisory positions in community corrections, serving as Team Supervisor for two offices in regional South Australia. She also acted as Area Manager for the Northern Regional Area several times. Transitioning to academia, she now imparts her field experience to students through teaching a range of courses in 2025. These include BEHL 2009 Group Work, WELF 1014 Human Service Provision, WELF 1019 Communication Skills in Social Work and Human Services, WELF 1020 Child Development, WELF 2019 Mental Health and Mental Wellbeing, and WELF 4032 Leading and Managing in Human Service Organisations. Furthermore, she coordinates tutorials for Social Work Field Education 1 (SOWK 3002) at the Whyalla campus, facilitating hands-on learning opportunities.
