Dr. Sovan Dey serves as an Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer at Curtin Medical School in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University, a position he has held since June 2022. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Nepal. Upon migrating to Australia, he pursued advanced studies, earning a Master of Public Health (MPH) from La Trobe University, a Master of Occupational and Environmental Health (MOEM) from Monash University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Skin Cancer Surgery from Bond University. As a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), Dr. Dey also functions as a clinical examiner for the RACGP and a general practitioner supervisor, contributing significantly to the training of future medical professionals.
In his extensive clinical practice across various medical centres in Western Australia, including Rockingham Medical & Dental Centre and Shoalwater Medical Centre, Dr. Dey focuses on comprehensive patient care. His expertise encompasses skin cancer assessment and management, procedures utilizing laser devices for appropriate medical indications, vasectomy procedures, weight management including the Allurion Balloon program, aviation medical examinations as a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME), and occupational underwater dive medical examinations certified by the South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society (SPUMS). His special interests further include dive medicals, men's health, minor injuries and surgery, occupational health, respiratory medicine, skin and cosmetics, travel medicine, weight management, aviation medicals, and firefighter medicals. Fluent in English, Nepali, Bengali, Hindi, and Urdu, he effectively communicates with a diverse clientele.
Dr. Dey's academic commitments extend beyond Curtin University. He holds a sessional academic position at Monash University in Melbourne, serves as a visiting researcher at the Centre for Orthopaedic Research at the University of Western Australia since 2021, and acts as Medical Advisor for Rural Health West. Earlier research contributions include publications on topics such as the adaptation of HIV prevention policies in Bangladesh (2013), cell therapy in critical limb ischemia (2012), and stem cells in stroke repair (2011), reflecting his interests in public health and regenerative medicine during his time associated with Monash University.
