About Stacie

Stacie B. Dusetzina, PhD, is a leading health services researcher whose work in Health Science centers on pharmacoepidemiology, prescription drug pricing, access to cancer treatments, and health policy impacts on patient outcomes. She received her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2010, with a PhD minor in Epidemiology from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill, and a BA with dual majors in Psychology and Management & Society from UNC Chapel Hill in 2002. After completing a Research Fellowship in the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School from 2010 to 2012, she joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, she served as Research Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology in the School of Medicine from 2012 to 2014. She advanced to Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Gillings School and in the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at the Eshelman School of Pharmacy from 2014 to 2018. During this period, she was also an Associate Member of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Fellow at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research.

Dusetzina's research at UNC Chapel Hill investigated drug utilization patterns, racial disparities in cancer supportive care, industry influences on treatment guidelines, and policy effects on medication adherence, including studies on Affordable Care Act impacts and chemotherapy-induced nausea management. Notable publications include 'Drug pricing trends for orally-administered anticancer medications reimbursed by commercial health plans, 2000-2014' (JAMA Oncology, 2016), 'Financial relationships with industry among National Comprehensive Cancer Network guideline authors' (JAMA Oncology, 2016), and 'Examining Racial Variation in Antiemetic Use and Post-Chemotherapy Health Care Utilization for Nausea and Vomiting Among Breast Cancer Patients' (Supportive Care in Cancer, 2016). She contributed to the President's Cancer Panel workshops on cancer drug pricing in 2016 and 2017 and served on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee on ensuring patient access to affordable drugs. In 2018, she joined Vanderbilt University School of Medicine as Associate Professor of Health Policy, becoming Professor and Ingram Professor of Cancer Research in 2022. Her ongoing work examines Medicare drug spending, financial toxicity in oncology, and policy reforms like the Inflation Reduction Act, with over 10,000 Google Scholar citations influencing national debates on drug affordability. Awards include Best Abstract in Category at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting (2018) and appointment as Commissioner on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission since 2021. She serves on the ICER Midwest Comparative Effectiveness Public Advisory Council and NCI PDQ Adult Treatment Editorial Board on Financial Toxicity & Cancer.
