Stan Guidera, Ph.D., serves as a Professor in the Department of Architecture and Environmental Design at Bowling Green State University. A licensed architect in the State of Ohio, he integrates professional practice with academic instruction. In his role as Architect Licensing Advisor for the Architecture Program, Guidera coordinates and advises students on internship requirements and the use of co-op assignments to meet Architectural Experience Program (AXP) requirements. He provides ongoing communication regarding AXP guidelines and organizes annual presentations by the Ohio Architects Board, exposing students to professional practice issues and the value of hands-on architectural experience. These efforts include events such as the AXP Info Session held on October 31, 2018, and participation in the 2019 NCARB Licensing Advisors Summit in Minneapolis. Guidera's high-level practice experience is widely acknowledged and appreciated by both faculty and students, contributing to the integration of professional practice criteria into courses like Codes and Regulations and Professional Practice/Entrepreneurship.
Guidera was promoted to full Professor in 2011 following the granting of tenure, recognizing his sustained contributions to the department. He previously held the position of Department Chair. His scholarly work centers on advancing digital technologies in architectural pedagogy, with research interests in architecture, ethics, professional ethics, architectural ethics, and the architectural profession. Notable publications include 'AC 2007-1775: Digital Design, BIM, and Digital Fabrication: Utilization and Integration in Architectural Engineering Curriculums' (2007), 'Conceptual Design Exploration in Architecture Using Parametric Generative Computing: A Case Study' (2011), 'Assessing New Applications for Solid Modeling (CSG) in Architectural Education' (2005), 'Exploring the Architecture of Structure: Integrating Structures into Design Studio Using Object Oriented CAD' (2003), and 'Computer Modeling and Visualization in Design Technology: An Instructional Model' (2002). These works, presented at conferences like ASEE and published in academic journals, explore topics such as digital modeling, BIM, digital fabrication, parametric design, and visualization tools in early design education. Guidera continues to attend professional development opportunities, including the 2022 NCARB Region 4 Educator Symposium, enhancing his support for student preparation toward licensure and professional success.
