Stephanie Bruce, LLB, BCom (Accounting), GDLP, LLM, is an Associate Lecturer in Curtin Law School, part of the Faculty of Business and Law at Curtin University. Her academic background includes Letters of Commendation from Curtin Law School in 2013, 2016, and 2017, the Insolvency Law Award from The University of Notre Dame Australia in 2017, the David James Educational Scholarship from Rotary Australia in 2012, and the Graduate Commerce Award from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in 2012. Throughout her career at Curtin University, she has held positions as Sessional Academic, Academic Tutor, Research Assistant at the Curtin Tax Clinic, and Editorial Assistant and Lead for the Curtin Law and Taxation Review. She serves as Unit Coordinator for Introduction to Australian Tax Law, contributing to the education of law students in taxation principles.
Bruce's research focuses on legal education, including the development of evaluative judgment through assessment rubrics and students-as-partners models, as well as tax clinics and corporate insolvency law. Her key publications include 'Developing the Evaluative Judgment of Law Students through Assessment Rubrics' (2022, Journal of the Australasian Law Teachers Association, co-authored with Hugh Finn, Meika Atkins, Christina Do, and Andrew Brennan); 'A students-as-partners-inspired approach to assessment rubric design' (2024, International Journal for Students as Partners, co-authored with Janie Brown, Anna Tarabasz, and Ryan Kirby); 'Building a Community of Practice in a Post-Pandemic World: A Work in Progress' (2023, co-authored with Christina Do and others); 'Creditor-Defeating Dispositions: A Necessary Addition to Australia's Corporate Insolvency Laws' (2021, Insolvency Law Journal); and '2019 National Tax Clinic Project: Curtin University – Curtin Tax Clinic' (2020, Journal of Australian Taxation, co-authored with Donovan Castelyn and Annette Morgan). She also contributed a book review of 'Confronting the Shadow Economy' by Colin C. Williams to the Curtin Law and Taxation Review (Volume III, 2016). Bruce has participated in the Australasian Tax Teachers Association annual conference, engaging with advancements in tax research and education.
