Stephen C. Jones, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Immunology, Associate Dean, Director of the MS Program Middletown, and Assistant Preclinical Dean at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine's Middletown campus, a division of Touro University. He earned his PhD in immunology from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake, New York, and a grant from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Jones joined Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008 as Assistant Professor of Immunology. In 2009, he became Course Director for the Introduction to Immunology and Medical Microbiology and Immunology courses. He also serves on the faculty of Kaplan Medical, teaching an Immunology Review Series to medical students worldwide preparing for USMLE Step 1. His teaching philosophy emphasizes presenting basic science as integrated mechanisms of larger biological processes relevant to clinical practice, rather than isolated facts.
Dr. Jones's research specializations include the immune response to multiple myeloma, the influence of environmental factors on inflammatory disease development using zebrafish animal models, and the role of hyaluronan in immune system function. His areas of expertise encompass vaccination, immunodeficiency diseases, autoimmune diseases, and gerontology. He has received the 2012 Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine Teacher of the Year Award, presented at the Class of 2014 White Coat Ceremony at the New York Academy of Medicine; the 2011 Touro College Faculty Research Award ($4,300) for mechanisms of immune system suppression in multiple myeloma patients; and the Ernest McCulloch & James Till Award for the best basic science paper by a new investigator in Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, recognizing work on delayed infusion of regulatory T cells to ameliorate graft-versus-host disease following bone marrow transplant. Dr. Jones previously served as TouroCOM Faculty Forum Chair and currently chairs the Rank and Credentials Committee while contributing to the Student Promotions, Research, and Biosafety Committees. He was honored as Inspiring Faculty in 2018. A key publication is 'Overview of Immunology and Allergy' (2019) in Allergy and Asthma: The Basics to Best Practices (Springer International Publishing).
