About Stuart

Stuart Rosewarne is an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Political Economy at the University of Sydney's School of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He obtained his PhD from the University of Sydney in 1987 and an MA from the University of Melbourne. Rosewarne has had a long career at the University of Sydney, previously serving as Chair of the Department of Political Economy and Senior Lecturer. His academic appointments reflect his expertise in political economy, with contributions spanning international political economy and ecological dimensions.

Rosewarne's research focuses on ecological political economy, renewable energy transitions, fossil fuel economies, climate change action, temporary labour migration, and migrant precarity in Asia. Notable publications include the monograph Contested Energy Futures: Fossil Fuels and the Transition to a Low-Carbon World in Australia (2022), which examines the renewable energy surge; Climate Action Upsurge: The Ethnography of Climate Movement Politics (2014, co-authored with James Goodman and Rebecca Pearse); chapters such as Renewable Energy Cooperatives Challenging the Liberalised Energy Economy in Australia and Local Governments as Conduits for Progressing Climate Change Action in Australia (both 2022); and articles including Migrant Precarity in Asia: Networks of Labour Activism for a Rights-based Governance of Migration (2017), The Transnationalisation of the Indian Coal Economy and the Australian Political Economy (2016), and Migrant Domestic Work: From Precarious to Precarisation (2014). His work has garnered 558 citations on ResearchGate. Rosewarne serves on the editorial team of the Journal of Australian Political Economy. The Stuart Rosewarne Prize in Political Economy, awarded for innovative development of social theory in support of progressive causes, recognizes his commitment to publicly engaged research.
