Great Professor!
Suresh Subashchandrabose is an environmental biotechnologist, sustainability leader, and biosecurity specialist with over 20 years of experience applying microbiology to practical challenges in water, soil, agriculture, and environmental protection. His expertise includes wastewater treatment, water quality assessment, aquatic ecotoxicology, agricultural biologicals, microbial innovations, and biosecurity risk management across plant, water, and terrestrial ecosystems. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of South Australia and a Master of Science from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University. Currently serving as Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the Global Centre for Environmental Remediation, College of Engineering, Science and Environment, University of Newcastle, he has developed integrated algal–bacterial treatment systems, conducted advanced toxicity and pathogen risk assessments, and managed large-scale environmental monitoring programs ensuring ecological health and biosecurity readiness.
In various industry roles in Australia and the USA, he has led diverse scientific teams, implemented protocols for data integrity, safety, sustainability, and biosecurity, and developed microbial technologies improving crop performance, soil carbon retention, and circular economy practices. His research specializations encompass bioremediation, biosecurity science, soil carbon sequestration, sustainable agricultural development, environmental assessment, and climate change adaptation. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed papers cited thousands of times, including 'Transformation of triclinic birnessite induced by vermicompost-enriched soil organic matter' (Chemical Geology, 2025), 'Birnessite-Mediated Phosphorus Transformation and Speciation in Dissolved and Soil Organic Matter' (Environmental Science & Technology, 2025), 'Anaerobic Degradation of Naphthalene and Pyrene by Sulfate-Reducing Cultures' (Microbial Ecology, 2023), 'Agricultural wastes for brine shrimp Artemia production: A review' (Reviews in Aquaculture, 2023), and 'Exploring the Composition and Functions of Plastic Microbiome Using Whole-Genome Sequencing' (Environmental Science & Technology, 2021). Holding multiple patents in carbon capture and yield enhancement, his contributions significantly impact environmental biotechnology and sustainability.
