About Susan

Susan S. Fish, PharmD, MPH, serves as Professor in the Department of Medical Sciences & Education at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, with additional professorships in Family Medicine at the School of Medicine and in Epidemiology at the School of Public Health. Formerly, she was Professor of Biostatistics at the School of Public Health and Director of the MA in Clinical Investigation in Graduate Medical Sciences. A medical researcher with more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Fish has contributed extensively to Health Science through her expertise in clinical toxicology, emergency medicine, and especially research ethics. Her academic interests encompass the protection of human research subjects, the design, conduct, and management of clinical trials, application of federal regulations for waiver of informed consent in emergency research, and ethical considerations in geographic information collection for HIV and substance use research. She educates and mentors students in Graduate Medical Sciences and teaches courses in both the Schools of Public Health and Medicine, while serving as a frequent national invited speaker.

Dr. Fish holds a PharmD from the University of Minnesota, an MPH from Boston University School of Public Health, a BS from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, and a BS from the University of Massachusetts Boston. During her sabbatical, she acted as Project Director for PRIM&R's Accreditation Project, aimed at developing a national accreditation system for human research protection programs. Her influence in the field is evidenced by over 137 publications, including Pandey S, Fish SS, Roy HK.
