Susan Gray, MD, is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, a position to which she was promoted effective July 1, 2024. She serves as Medical Director of the UVA Teen and Young Adult Health Center and Interim Division Head of General Pediatrics. Joining the UVA Health Children's staff in 2019, she specializes in adolescent medicine within the Division of Adolescent Medicine. Her undergraduate education was at Yale University, followed by her medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 2000. She completed her pediatrics residency from 2000 to 2003 and fellowship in adolescent medicine from 2003 to 2006 at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. Board certified in adolescent medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Gray holds Virginia and Massachusetts medical licenses. Prior to UVA, she co-founded the Young Women with Bleeding Clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2018.
Dr. Gray's clinical interests encompass teen health, pediatric primary care, gynecology, and reproductive health, including provision of IUD and Nexplanon contraception implants. She provides specialized care for young people with eating disorders and works with families of girls with medical complexities and unique developmental needs. She has delivered invited talks nationwide on reproductive health for young people with special needs. At UVA, she presented Medicine Grand Rounds on “First Aid for Eating Disorders: Recognition and Triage for Internists” and spoke at the McLemore Birdsong Pediatric Conference. Recognized as a Top Doctor in Adolescent Medicine by Virginia Business in 2025, she has served on Promotion and Tenure Committees. Her contributions extend to educational initiatives, including the Virtual Observership in Pediatrics program and support for the Teen Health Eating Disorders Clinic.
