Dr. Suzanne Gilbey is a Lecturer and Student Engagement Officer in the Curtin School of Population Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. She also holds the role of Academic Integrity Advisor. Her academic background includes a PhD from Curtin University, a Master of Science in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), a Graduate Diploma in OHS, a Graduate Diploma in Education, and a Bachelor of Science, the latter three from the University of Western Australia. Gilbey teaches undergraduate units, including serving as unit coordinator for PUBH1001: Introduction to Health, Safety and Environment, and supervises research students.
Her research specializations encompass indoor air quality, air quality assessment, exposure assessment, health risk assessment, and the health effects of air pollutants on human health, with particular attention to cardiovascular outcomes and type 2 diabetes mellitus in contexts such as residential indoor environments, childcare facilities, and agricultural settings in Western Australia. Key publications include 'Agricultural Dust Exposures and Health and Safety Practices among Western Australian Wheatbelt Farmers during Harvest' (2019, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health); 'Occupational exposures to agricultural dust by Western Australian wheat-belt farmers during seeding operations' (2018); 'Associations Between Sub-Clinical Markers of Cardiometabolic Risk and Exposure to Residential Indoor Air Pollutants in Healthy Adults in Perth, Western Australia: A Study Protocol' (2019); 'Residential indoor exposure to fine and ultrafine particulate air pollution in association with blood pressure and subclinical central haemodynamic markers of cardiovascular risk among healthy adults living in Perth, Western Australia' (2022); 'The Association between Exposure to Residential Indoor Volatile Organic Compounds and Measures of Central Arterial Stiffness in Healthy Middle-Aged Men and Women' (2022); 'Factors affecting indoor environmental air quality of non-smoking residences in Perth, Western Australia' (2023); and 'Is poor air quality in day-care centres’ affecting our children’s health? A study of indoor air quality in childcare facilities located in Perth, Western Australia' (2023). Her work has received over 60 citations. In 2016, she was awarded the Postgraduate Masters award by the Safety Institute of Australia OHS Education Accreditation Board.
