Takeshi Yamada is Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Global Studies at Chiba University of Commerce. He serves as a Director on the university's Board of Directors. Yamada graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University in March 1989. He completed the Master's program in the Department of Economics at Keio University Graduate School in March 1991, receiving a Master's degree in Economics. In March 1995, he withdrew from the doctoral program in the Department of Economics at Keio University Graduate School after completing all required credits.
Yamada's academic career at Chiba University of Commerce began in April 1995 as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Commerce and Economics, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in April 1998 and to Professor in April 2005. From March 2005 to March 2006, he was a long-term dispatched researcher conducting overseas research in the United Kingdom. He also held a professorship in the Graduate School of Economics from April 2006 to March 2009. Currently, he is Professor in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts (Global Studies) and is affiliated with the Faculty of Comprehensive Policy. His research encompasses health economics, including analyses of medical expenditures, health checkups, social insurance reforms, and long-term care demand. More recently, his work has addressed disaster economics, as evidenced by his publication 'Disaster Prevention Policy and Individual Choice' in the Kofudai Economic Review, Volume 32, Issue 1. Key earlier publications include 'R&D Expenses and Efficient Research and Development' in Medical and Society, Vol. 15, No. 1 (September 2005); 'Estimation of Long-Term Cumulative Medical Expenses' (March 2005); 'The Impact of Uncertainty in Health on Acceptance of Health Checkups and Medical Services' (March 2004); and 'Income Transfers through Social Insurance and Medical Insurance System Reform' in Key Issues in Medical System Reform (September 2003). He co-presented 'The Demand for Long Term Care of the Aged in Japan' at the NBER & JCER Joint Conference on The Economics of Health Care in December 1994. Yamada has authored economics textbooks, including Invitation to Economics, 2nd Edition (January 2006) and 3rd Edition (January 2007). He has conducted seminars for social studies and civics teachers (2003) and led a civic education course in Ichikawa City (October 2007).
