Rate My Professor Tamsin MacBride

Tamsin MacBride joined the University of the West of Scotland in 2009 and is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Adult Nursing Community and Health Division of the School of Health and Life Sciences. She qualified as a registered nurse in 1998 with a Bachelor of Nursing degree and accumulated substantial clinical experience in critical care, advancing from junior staff nurse to senior staff nurse and later serving as a practice educator. In 2023 she completed her Doctor of Philosophy with a thesis entitled Exploring and supporting the continued growth of positive learning environments in care homes for everyone: An Appreciative Inquiry. Her academic career has included a secondment from 2015 to 2019 to facilitate the My Home Life Scotland Leadership Support and Community Development programme, during which she contributed to leadership initiatives and related research activities aimed at developing care homes as learning organisations.

MacBride specialises in participatory research approaches with particular expertise in appreciative inquiry, alongside mixed methods and realist evaluation. Her work focuses on enhancing positive learning environments in care homes and has produced outputs such as a 2022 qualitative study of organisational resilience in Scottish care homes published in PLOS ONE, a 2021 article exploring the L.I.F.E. session storytelling method in The International Practice Development Journal, and presentations on enriched environments of learning in care homes. She maintains an active research profile with ten articles, four papers, four presentations and three commissioned reports among her total of twenty-seven outputs. Her research aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals including Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. She accepts PhD students and collaborates with care home providers, NHS boards and third sector organisations.
