Dr. Tanusree Chakravarty Mukherjee is a Lecturer in the Accounting, Finance and Economics Department within the Faculty of Business at Curtin University Malaysia, Sarawak Campus in Miri. She holds a PhD in Economics and Finance from Curtin University Malaysia, where her doctoral thesis, 'Patent Protection, Technical Efficiency and Productivity Growth in Indian Manufacturing Industries,' supervised by Professor Ruhul Salim, examined the impact of patent reforms on firm-level technical efficiency and productivity growth in selected Indian manufacturing industries. Her research specializations include applied economics, microeconomics, microfinance, economics analysis, foreign direct investment, green finance, financial inclusion, cryptocurrency markets as hedge assets, innovation dynamics, the natural resource curse hypothesis, and sustainable development in regions such as BRICS and BRICST countries.
As Discipline Lead in Economics and leader of the Faculty of Business's 'Green Economy Roadmap and Sustainable Future' research cluster, Dr. Mukherjee has received research funding from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and Curtin Malaysia. She is a Fellow of the UK's Advance HE. Her key publications encompass 'The Influence of Macro Policy Uncertainty on Blockchain Adoption, Crypto Economy, and Digital Asset Infrastructure' (Journal of the Knowledge Economy, 2026), 'Green finance, financial inclusion, and trade adjusted carbon emissions: Unravelling the path to sustainable development in the BRICST region' (Energy & Environment, 2025), 'Hedge asset for stock markets: Cryptocurrency, Cryptocurrency Volatility Index (CVI) or Commodity' (Quantitative Finance and Economics, 2025), 'Innovation dynamics in the natural resource curse hypothesis: A new perspective from BRICS countries' (Resources Policy, 2023), and 'Role of ICT in testing the resource-curse hypothesis in N11 countries' (Resources Policy, 2023). Dr. Mukherjee contributes to academic discourse through reviewer roles for journals such as the Journal of Emerging Markets and Management, supervises PhD and research students emphasizing strong supervisor-student relationships, mentors award-winning undergraduates, and delivers public seminars on topics including the economics of migration, balancing sustainability and the green economy, and financial literacy for educators and international students.
