Tasneem (Tas) Husain is a Senior Lecturer and distinguished lecturer in the Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance at Macquarie University's Business School. She possesses a robust background in finance, with extensive industry experience as a trader on the London Metal Exchange and as a commercial manager managing significant transactions. Having lived and worked in Dubai, London, and New York, Husain brings a global perspective and deep understanding of diversity to her teaching and leadership roles. Her academic career includes prior appointments at the University of Wollongong in Dubai and Southern Cross University. At Macquarie, she serves as Faculty Lead for Sessional Academic Staff Engagement, organizing workshops such as 'Excellence in Teaching,' leading projects to enhance hiring practices, and promoting professional development, equity, diversity, and inclusion for sessional staff. Husain's teaching philosophy emphasizes a community of inquiry, creating democratic, rigorous, reflective, and inclusive learning environments where students are reflective, reasonable, and judicious. She employs active learning strategies, curriculum innovations, storytelling, and theatrical delivery—describing teaching as 90% theatre—to bridge theory and practice, drawing from her corporate experience. She has developed new units, led transitions to online learning, and achieved high student satisfaction ratings.
Husain holds qualifications including BCom, MBA, MAppFin, and MRes from Macquarie University, where her MRes thesis examined 'Sustainability reports versus sustainability practices: impact of organised hypocrisy, organisational facades on sustainability behaviour of Australian mining companies' (2022). Her contributions to publications include co-authoring Horngren's Accounting, 10th edition (Pearson Australia, 2026), a comprehensive 1800-page textbook covering financial accounting, management accounting, sustainability, ethics, and the accounting cycle for introductory courses in Australia and New Zealand. She convenes units such as Accounting Capstone (ACCG8150), Financial Management for Business (MQBS1040), and others. Husain has earned major teaching awards, including the Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award (2005-2006, University of Wollongong in Dubai), Vice Chancellor’s Student-nominated Teaching Award (2018), Faculty of Business and Economics Student-Led Teaching Award (2018), and nominations for the Vice Chancellor’s award in 2020, 2021, and 2023. Her impact lies in elevating teaching quality, student engagement, and staff development within the Business and Economics faculty.
