Professor Terri Laguna is a Professor of Pediatrics in the University of Washington School of Medicine and serves as Division Head of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine at Seattle Children’s Hospital, a position she assumed in 2023. She received her MD from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, completed her pediatric residency and chief residency at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital, and undertook her pediatric pulmonology fellowship at the University of Colorado. Early in her career, she joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota. She then spent 15 years at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, contributing as a clinician, educator, researcher, and leader, including as Associate Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center.
Dr. Laguna conducts research on early lung disease in cystic fibrosis at the Center for Respiratory Biology and Therapeutics in Seattle Children’s Research Institute, with her work also addressing cystic fibrosis airway microbiota and care disparities. Her scholarly contributions include key publications such as “Ensuring Speaker Diversity at the American Thoracic Society International Conference” (Annals of the American Thoracic Society, 2023), “Establishing a Cystic Fibrosis Learning Network to Support Care Coproduction” (Learning Health Systems, 2023), “Impaired Fasting Glucose in Cystic Fibrosis” (Diabetes Care, 2010), and “A New Method of Sweat Testing: The CF Quantum Sweat Testing System” (Journal of Cystic Fibrosis, 2014). She holds a Master of Science in Clinical Science (MSCS) and is an American Thoracic Society Fellow (ATSF). Dr. Laguna has received the Outstanding Faculty Educator award from pediatric residents five times, serves as a national mentor for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and leads diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as chair of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee in the UW Department of Pediatrics and through roles on the ATS board and as chair of its Assembly on Pediatrics.
