Tessa Stratton is a Biochemistry Technician in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Otago, where she supports research and teaching activities within the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, Division of Health Sciences. Her direct dial is +64 3 556 5273. As a professional staff member, she contributes to the operational aspects of the department, which is home to numerous professors and researchers focused on areas such as genomics, structural biology, and cancer research.
Prior to her current role, Tessa Stratton completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences with Honours (BBiomedSc (Hons)) at the University of Otago in 2019. Her honours project, supervised by Adele Woolley, investigated the relative location of filamin B and YB-1 in cells. She subsequently pursued a Master of Biomedical Science (MBiomedSc) as a student in the Woolley Laboratory in the Department of Pathology. Her master's research project aimed to further characterise, visualise, and document the interaction between SEPT2 and YB-1 in invasion and metastasis, particularly in breast cancer. YB-1 and SEPT2 are proteins implicated in cell cycle progression and cancer metastasis, with previous mass spectrometry data indicating their interaction. Tessa Stratton was among the graduands in the record graduation numbers for the COVID cohort at the University of Otago.
