About Theuns

Dr Theuns Henning is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Auckland. He serves as Director of the Infrastructure Management Post-Graduate Programme. He holds a Master of Engineering in Transportation from the University of Pretoria in South Africa and completed his PhD at the University of Auckland in 2009.

His research focuses on asset management, climate adaptation, performance monitoring, optimised decision making and asset management systems. He is a founding member of relevant research initiatives and has contributed to numerous publications on topics including pavement deterioration models, road roughness, gravel road management, infrastructure sustainability rating tools, bridge deterioration and surfacing alternatives for unsealed roads. Notable works include papers from 2004 on long-term pavement performance studies, 2008 on gravel deterioration models, 2009 on rutting approaches, and later contributions on probabilistic deterioration modelling and climate integration in asset management. He was recognised as a Fellow by Engineering New Zealand in 2023.
