Tim Harrison is Associate Professor of Postgraduate Clinical Education in the Leicester School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, at De Montfort University Leicester. In March 2026, he delivered his inaugural professorial lecture as Professor of Pharmacist Professional Development, titled 'A journey through pharmacy’s history, symbols, practice, and education—exploring the factors that have shaped the modern pharmacist’s professional identity.' His qualifications include a BPharm from Cardiff University, a PgDip in Advanced Professional Practice from Keele University, and a PhD from De Montfort University. A registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (MRPharmS), he is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). Harrison received the De Montfort University Vice-Chancellor Distinguished Teaching Award in 2019 for outstanding student experience.
An academic dedicated to advancing the pharmacy profession through continuing professional development and lifelong learning, Harrison specializes in designing and delivering modular postgraduate education using distance and blended learning formats, integrating learning technologies and simulation. His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy programs, focusing on clinical practice skills including complex decision-making, clinical reasoning, communication, consultation skills, medical law and ethics, and research concepts. He supports pharmacists in developing advanced skills, particularly for prescribing practice, to build a resilient workforce. Research interests encompass Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacy Education. Notable publications include 'How to use clinical reasoning in pharmacy' (The Pharmaceutical Journal, 2022, with P.M. Rutter and E. Mills), 'Differential diagnosis in pharmacy practice: Time to adopt clinical reasoning and decision making' (Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy, 2020, with P.M. Rutter), and 'What influences prescribing decisions in a multimorbidity and polypharmacy context on the acute medical unit? An interprofessional, qualitative study' (Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, 2020, with P.H. Rivers, N. Langford, and A. Whitehead). Harrison serves on the Pharmacy Schools Council's Postgraduate Task and Finish Group and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Post-registration Foundation Assessment Panel. He teaches on the MSc in Clinical Pharmacy, Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing, and Masters in Pharmacy.
