Rate My Professor Tjebo Heeren

Mr Tjebo Heeren is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust specialising in medical retina and cataract surgery. He joined Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2016 and has completed fellowships in medical retina, uveitis, cataract, urgent eye care and research. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from University College London awarded in 2022 for his thesis on visual dysfunction in macular telangiectasia type 2, a Medical Doctorate from Mainz Germany awarded in 2013 and a German Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology awarded in 2018. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology and a Member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. His clinical practice focuses on the treatment of age-related macular degeneration diabetic eye disease retinal vein occlusions and macular telangiectasia type 2. Mr Heeren has published more than eighty peer-reviewed articles and maintains an active research interest in medical retina and cataract surgery with particular emphasis on macular telangiectasia type 2. He developed two online data science courses for clinicians at Moorfields Education covering an introduction to data science and an intensive course in R. He trains ophthalmology residents in medical retina and cataract surgery and has delivered seminars and lectures on macular telangiectasia type 2 at national and international venues including London Epsom Belfast Lucerne Zagreb Rio de Janeiro and New York. His academic affiliations include the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.
