Dr. Todd Gillam serves as a Lecturer and Research Fellow in the School of Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry and Physics at Murdoch University, specializing in chemistry with a focus on biomedical and applied applications. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of South Australia and previously held positions including Postdoctoral Fellow at the PRIF Integrated Mining Consortium, University of Adelaide, and researcher in the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Australia. Gillam's career trajectory reflects a commitment to advancing chemical research at the intersection of academia and practical innovation, transitioning from drug discovery and biomaterials development to environmental and materials chemistry.
Gillam's research encompasses drug delivery systems, bioactive compounds, natural products, metal complexes for cellular imaging, pH-responsive polymers, and antiseptic coatings. Key publications include 'Investigating intracellular localisation and cytotoxicity trends for neutral and cationic iridium tetrazolato complexes in live cells' (Chemistry–A European Journal, 2017); 'Strategies for the development of pH-responsive synthetic polypeptides and polymer-peptide hybrids: recent advancements' (Polymers, 2021); 'Iodine complexed poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) plasma polymers as broad-spectrum antiseptic coatings' (Applied Surface Science, 2021); 'An integrated approach for discovery of highly potent and selective Mnk inhibitors' (European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2015); and recent contributions such as 'Cross-linked β-cyclodextrin polymers for adsorption of flotation frothers for mineral processing water reclamation' (2024). He is the recipient of the Office of National Intelligence National Intelligence Postdoctoral Grant (NIPG-2022-001). Actively engaged with the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, Gillam organizes symposia and presents on early-career challenges in chemistry, fostering community and professional development.
