Todd Goddard is an Associate Professor in the Department of English & Literature at Utah Valley University, where he joined the faculty in 2013. He earned his B.A. from New York University in 1996, J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2003, M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Ph.D. in literary studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2013. Goddard's academic interests center on 19th- and 20th-century U.S. literature, contemporary literature and postmodernism, environmental studies, and biography. These areas reflect his commitment to exploring key developments in American literary traditions, narrative innovation, and interdisciplinary connections between literature and the natural world.
Goddard has contributed significantly to literary scholarship through publications and presentations on American and English literature and history. His major publication, Devouring Time: Jim Harrison, A Writer's Life, published in 2025 by Blackstone Publishing, is the first comprehensive biography of the acclaimed American writer Jim Harrison. Previously serving as Assistant Professor of English & Literature, he co-directed the study abroad program 'London & Barcelona - Literature' from July 1 to August 5, 2019, alongside Nathan Gorelick, facilitating immersive experiences in literary landmarks for students. In recognition of his excellence in teaching and service, Goddard received the Faculty Award of Excellence in the College of Humanities & Social Sciences at Utah Valley University in 2020. His unique blend of legal expertise and literary scholarship enriches his pedagogical and research approaches, fostering deep engagements with literary texts and their cultural contexts within the field of Literature.
