Dr Tom Round is a Lecturer in the School of Law and Justice within the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts at Southern Cross University. He holds an Arts/Law degree from the University of Queensland, comprising a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in politics and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). Round completed his PhD at Griffith University. Prior to his academic appointment, he worked in the Commonwealth Department of Immigration. Since 2004, he has lectured in law units at Southern Cross University, primarily based at the Gold Coast campus in Building B6.40C.
Dr Round teaches Constitutional Law (LAWS2005), Administrative Law (LAWS3008), and Local Government and Planning Law (LAWS2014). His research interests include electoral systems, voting rules, constitutional theory, administrative law, and evidence law. He also serves as Deputy Academic Integrity Officer for the Faculty of Business, Law and Arts. Round has contributed to legal scholarship through various publications, including the book chapter "Wild negligence: Donoghue v Stevenson," co-authored with Bee Chen Goh (2017); the article "'Recountbacks' and Section 44 of the Constitution" in the Canberra Law Review, volume 16(1), pages 109-130 (2019); a contribution to the book "Retrospectivity and the rule of law," edited by Charles JG Sampford, Jennie Louise, Sophie Blencowe (Oxford University Press, 2006); and a book review of "The Australian Federal Judiciary: The History of the Federal Judiciary of Australia" by Brian R Opeskin and Fiona Wheeler (eds) in the Australian Journal of Political Science, volume 38(1), pages 153-154 (2003). He has supervised PhD theses such as "Myanmar (Burma), Ethnic Nationalities and the Rule of Law" by N Willis (2022) and "A conceptual framework for the law and technology interface" by FG Horton (2021).
