Toni Glover, PhD, GNP-BC, ACHPN, FAAN, is a Professor in the School of Nursing at Oakland University, serving as the Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital Endowed Professor. She is recognized as a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing by the National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence. Glover earned her PhD in Nursing Science, MSN in Family Nursing, and BSN from the University of Florida, as well as a Post-MSN Certificate in Gerontological Nursing from the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Holding certifications as a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (GNP-BC) and Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (ACHPN), her research focuses on geriatric palliative care, care of older adults, communication skills for serious illness, and pain. She has over 55 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Western Journal of Nursing Research, Journal of Nursing Education, American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Clinical Journal of Pain, and Journal of Pain and Symptom Management.
Glover's impactful career includes key publications like the book chapter 'Palliative medicine and end-of-life care' in Handbook of Clinical Neurology: Geriatric Neurology (2019), 'Instruments for evaluating student learning outcomes in palliative care: A literature review' in Journal of Hospice and Palliative Nursing (2024), and 'A scoping review of ‘functional pain goals’ in cancer pain research' in Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (2024). Her honors encompass induction as a 2024 Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, the 2023 Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing Award, the 2022 ELNEC Award of Excellence for advancing palliative care education, and the 2020 Nightingale Award from the School of Nursing along with the Faculty Award in Research from Oakland University. As Regional Chair for ELNEC, she leads the Michigan ELNEC Initiative, funded by a $218,373 grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund to enhance primary palliative care education for nursing students in collaboration with community colleges. She also serves on the Ascension Ethics Committee and is a member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau.
