About Tsunenaga

Tsunenaga Oizumi serves as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Management and Law at Aomori Chuoh Gakuin University, where he also holds a professorship in the Graduate School of Regional Management and acts as Vice President. Born in Mexico City in 1974, he obtained a Master's degree in International Economics from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain and completed the required coursework as a doctoral candidate in Business Administration at the University of Valladolid. Before entering academia, Oizumi worked in the Technical Department and Export Sales Department at Toshiba Machine Co., Ltd. His expertise centers on crisis management research grounded in business administration, encompassing international management, international relations with a focus on EU regional studies, terrorism, risk management, disaster prevention, business continuity planning, and global business challenges.

Oizumi teaches courses including International Management Theory, International Relations Theory, Disaster Prevention and Crisis Management, and Enterprise Crisis Management Special Topics. He has authored key publications such as Global Management Risk Management Theory: Political Risk and Cross-Cultural Business Troubles and Avoidance Strategies (2012, Soseisha), Introduction to Global Management through Cases: Guidelines for SMEs' Overseas Expansion (2020, Bunshindo), Why Do Japanese Leaders Fail at Crisis Management?: Leaders Should Be Pessimists, Field Troops Optimists! (2015, Kohyo Publishing), and The Turbulent European Union (EU) Immigration Policy: Limits of Multicultural and Multiethnic Coexistence and Threats from Islamist Extremist Terrorism (2017, Kohyo Publishing). His articles appear in outlets like the Aomori Chuo Gakuin University Research Bulletin, including pieces on Basque ethnic struggles (2009) and J-Alert evacuation behaviors (2024). Among his honors are the Excellent Publication Award from the Japan Risk Management Society and the Society Award from the Social Risk Management Society, both received in 2015. Oizumi has chaired the Aomori Prefectural Sambongi Agricultural High School Accident Investigation Committee (2021-2023), served on the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Expert Meeting on School Accident Response Research (2014-2016), and currently participates in the Tohoku Shimpo Reporting Review Committee (since 2023). He regularly lectures on crisis management for schools and educational boards and provides expert commentary to media on disasters, accidents, and safety.
