Dr. Tyler Yu serves as Professor of Economics and Dean of the School of Business at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), contributing to its Business & Economics programs. A first-generation immigrant from Dalian, China, he earned his doctorate in agricultural economics from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in accounting from Kennesaw State University. He also holds a certificate in the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business’ (AACSB) Leading in the Academic Enterprise Series and a certificate of achievement in Academic Assessment from Harvard University. With over 20 years of university-level teaching experience, primarily as a tenured full professor at Mercer University from 1990 to 2006, Dr. Yu joined GGC as a charter faculty member in 2006 upon the college's opening. In this role, he has taught a wide range of undergraduate courses, including principles and intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, international economics, quantitative analysis and methods, business statistics, multivariate applied business statistics, financial accounting, managerial accounting, and cost accounting. At the graduate level, his courses have encompassed managerial economics, operations management, decision theory, and international economics. At GGC, he has specifically instructed macroeconomics, international economics and finance, financial and managerial accounting, business statistics, applied quantitative analysis, and special topics.
Dr. Yu has published more than 30 articles in refereed national and international journals, covering topics such as economics, management, business research, international business, ethics, and monetary policy. He has presented papers at academic conferences, with some published in peer-reviewed proceedings. His administrative contributions include serving on and chairing several college committees, acting as interim dean of the School of Business prior to his permanent appointment succeeding Dr. Victoria Johnson in 2016, and selection to the Gwinnett Community Advisory Task Force in 2021. Under his leadership, the GGC School of Business achieved initial AACSB accreditation and subsequent reaccreditation in 2023, launched new programs such as the Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems in 2022, and established a state-of-the-art Securities Industry Management Simulation (SIM) lab in 2023 to provide Wall Street-like experiences for students. These initiatives reflect his commitment to enhancing business education, workforce readiness, and AACSB standards of excellence.
