U. Yeliz Eseryel, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Management Information Systems in the College of Business at East Carolina University. She received her Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology, M.S. in Information Management, and M.B.A. specializing in Global Entrepreneurship, all from Syracuse University. Before entering academia full-time, Dr. Eseryel gained extensive industry experience in business and strategy consulting and IT project management. Since 2004, she has delivered international teaching across corporate training, executive education, master’s programs, and undergraduate courses, bringing practical insights to her academic roles. At East Carolina University, she holds leadership positions including Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Leadership and Management, co-mentor for the AIS ECU Student Chapter and Delta Sigma Pi professional fraternity, and mentor in the College of Business Assistant Professor Mentorship Program.
Dr. Eseryel’s research focuses on open innovation enablement through information systems, virtual and IT-enabled leadership, cybersecurity resilience, and creative IT pedagogy. She has authored numerous publications, including “Can Your Leadership Increase Mine? Enabling IT Self-Leadership Through Transformational IT Leadership” (2024), “Auditors' Perception of Their Regulator Within Their Social Group” (2022), “Functional and Visionary Leadership in Self-Managing Virtual Teams” (2021), “Why Users Comply with Wearables: The Role of Contextual Self-Efficacy in Behavioral Change” (2021), “IT culture elements that influence individual readiness to change in healthcare organizations” (2021), “Decision-making Processes in Community-based Free/Libre Open Source Software-development Teams with Internal Governance” (2020), and “The case of “Med-Global”: IT-enabled innovation and implementation by non-IT business unit leaders” (2019). Her work has advanced understanding of transformational IT leadership, self-leadership, and decision-making in virtual teams and open source communities. Dr. Eseryel’s contributions are recognized by the 2024 UNC Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching Award and the Association for Information Systems Distinguished Member Cum Laude honor for research impact and leadership. Through editorial roles and mentoring, she continues to shape the field of IT management and innovation.
