Dr. Vanessa Atienza-Hipolito, FRANZCR, is a distinguished radiologist with more than 24 years of expertise in the field, holding subspecialties in breast imaging, interventional radiology, paediatric imaging, and musculoskeletal imaging. She serves as Clinical Director and business owner of Women's & Breast Imaging (WBI), operating practices in Cottesloe and the Murdoch branch in Western Australia. In academia, she is appointed as Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer at Curtin Medical School within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University. Additionally, she holds adjunct lecturer positions at The University of Western Australia and Edith Cowan University, where she engages in clinical supervision, OSCE examinations, clinician-student mentoring, and lectures to medical students. Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, she completed her medical degree there and pursued further training in Australia as an International Medical Graduate, overcoming challenges to establish her career.
Dr. Atienza-Hipolito is committed to advancing breast health, radiology education, and patient care. She has made impactful contributions through authorship of several works, including her book 'Ligaya: How Faith and Self Mastery Transformed My Life' published in 2025, 'Women's Guide to Breast Imaging' in first and second editions, and co-authorship of 'Cases on Best Clinical Practices in Breast Imaging' with Manda Raz, as well as contributions to 'The Power to Rise Above', 'Courage & Confidence', and 'Global Girls'. Her academic interests include patient education, exemplified by the development of the BRILLIANT™ framework aimed at reducing anxiety about mammographic radiation exposure, co-authored with Sandhya Solanki and Mariam Safi Khan. She has presented at conferences, including the Sixth Annual Women in Medicine Summit with her perspective essay 'Trailblazing Resilience: From Immigrant Doctor to Healthcare Visionary', and is acknowledged in the Joint AAPM Task Group 282/EFOMP Working Group Report on Breast Cancer Screening Metrics (2023). Furthermore, she serves as a director for the Australasian Society for Breast Disease (ASBD). Her influence extends to public speaking on breast imaging practices, dense breast awareness, and career pathways for international medical graduates. Dr. Atienza-Hipolito has received honors such as the Silver Award in the Women in Medicine category at the Women Changing the World Awards 2023, recognition as a nominee for Filipino-Australian of the Year 2023, and finalist in the Australian Women's Small Business Champion Awards 2022.
