Dr. Veronica Gardiner serves as Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) in the School of Education at Murdoch University. She holds a PhD from Murdoch University, a Master of Education (Research), a Bachelor of Education (Primary), and a Bachelor of Science (Psychology). With a background as an experienced primary school teacher, Gardiner has built a distinguished career at Murdoch University, advancing from senior lecturer (Level C, as noted in the 2023 annual report) to her current leadership role. Her academic journey includes receiving an Australian Postgraduate Award scholarship with a Murdoch University top-up during her doctoral studies and the College Teaching Excellence Award for the College of Health and Education.
Gardiner's research specializations encompass teacher professional learning, literacies, English curriculum, cultural historical activity theory, education policy, teacher education, multiliteracies, and digital literacies. Her PhD thesis, completed in 2018, titled 'How primary early career teachers perceive and shape their literacy teaching practice,' exemplifies her focus on early career educators. Key publications include 'More than Standardisation: Teacher's Professional Literacy Learning in Australia?' (Australian Journal of Teacher Education, 2017), co-authored work on 'Negotiating Conceptual and Contextual Contradictions: Professional Learning in a Scaffolded Multiliteracies Book Club' (Australian Journal of Teacher Education, 2015), and a scoping review on 'Mixed Reality Simulations for Preservice Teachers' (2023). Her scholarship has earned 127 citations on Google Scholar and 222 on ResearchGate. As principal investigator or key member, she contributes to projects such as 'Mixed-reality environments: Micro-teaching 2.0' (2021-present).
